Read the story
Two researchers found a young walrus all by itself on a remote island in Alaska. It had no mother to look after it. They got permission from the local Inupiaq community and from wildlife officials to help it. The nearest marine animal centre was more than 800 miles away, and a storm kept them stuck on the island for days. They sheltered the calf in an empty building until they could take it to the Alaska SeaLife Center.
